A cai does several things, it's not just cosmettic, it removes the air silencer, has a larger filter to help suck in more air, removes the wire filter in behind the MAF, widens the air tube a little, and gets rid of the crappy stock paper filter. Granted, it's not a lot, but it's enough to gernerate a few extra ponies.

CAI really is nothing for performance/gas mileage... think about it!!! you take off your ugly black plastic tubing, spend 150 dollars, and put on a chrome one which is roughly the same size, just HIDDEN in the fender wall... how is that gonna change anything? So hopefully everyone that has a question about CAI manages to slip into this thread and read the facts... it seems every topic on here says to get a cai for a first mod... Unless youre going for appearence, its pointless!
youre pointless.

it helps with throttle response, cleaning up the engine bay, and you get a k&n with the kit, so like jthron said youre doing all that stuff ontop of adding a high flow filter.

they wouldnt sell so many if they didnt do anything granted i dont think theyre worth $170 but what can you do if you wanna be legal?

thats all it does is cleans, and makes it look better, LIKE I SAID!... but by "couple ponys" maybe youre referring to the TWO that i mentioned in the first post? Sorry but i dont consider 170 dollars for 2 horsepower much of a "gain"... losing 170$... gaining 2hp doesnt quite make a gain!!!

Jthorn, im gonna pretend you didnt just say im pointless, and i wont even go to how ugly your green mustang is... then again, your 140hp needs that extra 2 horsies now doesnt it!!!!

Now, so we can eliminate all of these cai questions that keep repeating themselves, lets let everybody know that you will HARDLYYYYYY, IF AT ALLLLLLL notice ANYYY difference!!!!!! Unless you like popping your hood and looking at a nice clean bay, dont waste your money!

see all of you people wanna get all defensive over this... How about we do our fellow mustang modders a favor and let them know the truth so they dont go waste 170 dollars and think they are gonna make there cars faster!

Well, they're not totally pointless, if you want to get really technical about it, 94-98 GTs gain roughly 8 rwhp, 99-04, approx 12, and the new GTs gain 15 or so rwhp, not to mention that I've seen dynos with stock sn-197 sixers gaining approx 10 rwhp with cold air intakes. Granted, they don't do too much for sn95 V6s, but I'll take the look, and throttle responce gains you get with them over anything stock. Yea, they may be overpriced, but they do help.

Oh, I hope you're not referring to me, because I have 2X that much rwhp.

x9Mustang9x, you should probably stop talkin all this sh*t before you start some big ***** fest. jthorn was reffering to GT's gaining power like that, some cars respond a lot better to a cai than others. our v6 sn95s dont gain much at all but it is a gain of like 2-3hp. hp is expensive. buy some udps...200 bucks for 5hp or so=thats $40/1hp, a cai is usually 160 or so for 2-3hp thats like $60/hp. power/performance is expensive. exhaust is another one. $400 or so for a really good exhaust gettin you like 5hp...thats about $80/1hp. oh and jthorn and AR, ricers??????

why dont you people just face the fact that cai will not make your car faster alone? All i was tyrin to do was let all these people that have questions about cai no that they arent gonna notice a difference with one, and to invest in something worth the money. and GTs dont gain even 5 hp with a cai my buddy with a gt even laughed when i told him about this thread. never said anybody is a ricer.. i said that jthorn was talkin like a ricer by sayin you can gain 8-12hp off a cai. READ AND KNOWLEDGE YOURSELF BEFORE SPEAKING!!! and if i wasnt called pointless i wouldnt have talked ****.
