trouble shifting into first gear. help please!
i am having trouble shifting into all gears, but first gear is the hardest.the gears become easier as they go up(1, 2, 3, 4, 5- 5 being the easiest.)i know it's not the clutch. unless the dealer messed up the install, which is possible. i replaced the clutch less than 3k miles ago. when the car is off i can enter each gear easily. can anyone lead me in the right direction? thanks, erich
If you mean putting it into 1st gear from a stop...just make sure the clutch is all the way depressed and give the shiftera nice firm push into 1st.
If you mean downshifting, it is really not good for the clutch to downshift into 1st, it is really only to get you moving.

It sounds like you have syncro issues. Make sure you are stopped when putting your car into first, or alteast less than 3 MPH. Ease your shifter into the gears, dont force anything to minimize wear. Try double clutching your shifts. You will be able to see if the syncros are the problem, because with double clutching you dont use the syncros. Double clutching = Say your shifting from 2nd to 3rd. Rev to 3k or so in 2nd, push in the clutch, move the shifter into nuetral. Then let go of the clutch. Push the clutch in again and shift into 3rd, release, and keep going. THis might seem wierd at first if you havent done it before, but as you do it more and more it will become second nature. You can do this for shifting into any gear.
if your up sifting and you cant get it into gear try changing the fluid that might held you should change the fluid in a t5 about every 30k miles and if you race it be very careful especially if your puttin some power to the ground 3rd gear in the t5 is pretty weak and you could wind up with no third pretty easily
yes, im having trouble shifting into first while i am stopped. it is actually easier to Downshift into first at about 5 mph. also, i tried double clutching, and it didn't help at all. also, the mechanic added fluid i believe, and that did help. but now the problem is back. less than 3 weeks later!. thanks for the advice
get the car on a lift and completely change the fluid id say put some royal purple in it and see how it does like i said the t5 tranny needs the fluid changed about every 30k as a preventative to keep everyting in workin order if you change it on a 30k basis it should last you a long time so i been told so try that and tell us what happens
okay thank you. ill let ya know.the mechanic today put in new fluid, and an "additive" he said im gonna have to drive it 1000 miles to see a change. he is prolly bull****ting me, but w/e. ill let you guys know.
