I thought it was a pain when i put on my little viynle strip that says "Mustang" on my third breaklight. I can't imagine trying to do a whole tint job!
For the sake of sanity, just get it done by a pro. You have to sometimes ask yourself if it is worth the money to avoid a headache. Thats why i got mine tinted by a pro too.
