It's 12.5 volts, not 13.5.
And the purpose of the alternator is to power eletrical accessories while the car is running, and to charge the battery/keep it charged while the car is off.

The battery is 12V but it needs a minum of 13.5 volts to charge it. Anything less means it won't charge the battery.
BTW. Not trying to be a smart azz but if you don't know for sure how something works you shouldn't say anything that might misinform people.

This happened in my 99. basically my battery blew up on me...and it was surging alot when i was driving down the road then just gave out...from what I experienced, Our stangs need a constant battery power with the alternator to keep the car running, odd but true in my experience.
