RE: Replacing a Throw-Out Bearing..
It's work, but not hard work.
1st, don't just replace your throw-out bearing, Replace the Clutch disk and the pressure plate as well. You really don't want to do this again next week to replace the clutch plate.
When you buy a clutch/pressure plate /throw-out bearing (from Ford) also get a clutch plate alignment tool. This looks like the front part of the transmission and goes in threw the clutch to align itbefore you tighten the pressure plate, Otherwise the trans wont go in.
Jack the car up, Jack stands.
Remove the drive shaft.
Remove inspection/dust cover from bell housing,
Remove trans/ Or just remove trans mount bolts and put trans in 1st gear and slide back enough to get stuff out. You might have to lower one end of the trans cross member.
remove throw out bearing
remove Pressure plate and Clutch disk.
Inspect pilot bearing in end of crank shaft, ( a bronze bushing at the end of the crank that the tip of the trans fits into. )
Install new Clutch plate and Pressure plate loosely
Use alignment tool to center clutch plate and tighten pressure plate.
Install new throw out bearing and reassemble trans/drive shaft, dust cover.
Keep you foot off the clutch when driving down the road, slight pressure on the pedal makes the throw out bearing spin. and causes it to wear out sooner.

RE: Replacing a Throw-Out Bearing..
well, here's the story.. i had the clutch replaced less than 7k miles ago. and the problem wasn't fixed so, the dealer that i took it to replaced the tranny free of charge. the total came to 1k. i was told that they replaced the following parts:
Clutch
Pressure Plate
Flywheel
Throw-Out Bearing
Clutch Pedal
Clutch Cable
Transmission(used) + Synchro's
Tranny Fluid
I have asked for help with this issue before, but no real new leads about what it could be. i took it to my uncle, and his friend. they both think it is the TO bearing hitting one of the Fingers on the diaphram of the Pressure Plate( they think one of them has been bent and as it goes around, it hits the TO Bearing. and thats what they think the Knocking noise is that is coming from the clutch pedal.) when the clutch is disenganged, and nothing is touching it, it squeaks, and the pedal pulsates with the knocking noise. increasing with RPM's.would these symptoms come from a bad Throw-Out Bearing? could i replace just that or would a bad throw out bearing destroy something else that i need to replace now?
Sorry for making such a long reply, but this problem has been nagging on me since late december. after they had my car for 2 months..Thanks, Erich

RE: Replacing a Throw-Out Bearing..
No problem
First thing I would do is Take it back to the place that fixed it, Let them listen to it. Not just a mechanic, Get a service manager involved.
With 7000 miles on the new clutch sound like they didn't do it correct.
If they don't want to help you then .
Jack the car up and put it on jack stands, remove the inspection cover under the bell housing and start the engine (natural) You can see what is going on in there with the cover off. Might be pressure plate bolts loose. Shut it off.
If every thing looks tight then wiggle the clutch arm. to move the throw-out bearing. It may have come off one side of the Clutch fork.

RE: Replacing a Throw-Out Bearing..
hmmm..interesting. i've already decided im not taking it back to the dealer tho. im happy that i have a new clutch/ tranny for 1000$. i dont want to be out of a car for another 2 months. im going to talk to my uncle and see if we can maybe do what you said. how much would it cost for a private shop to put in the throw out bearing? thanks alot for your help man. i really appreciate it.

I may need to replace my TO bearing in my 04 mustang 3.8L V6
It makes the dreaded squealing sound and it's slightly when my foot is not on the clutch but when I press the clutch the sound goes away but makes that grinding sound a little but while I'm driving and foot isn't on the clutch it's like it makes no sound until I touch the clutch. Any answers as to if it is a loose clutch cable possibly or an actual TO bearing?
