Some questions about my stang
okay so i just bought a v6 98 vert. I love it 5 speed shifts great and all, ill get pics up later. question though, when i turn my steering wheel it makes a kindof specking noise like you would here out of a door that needs lube, there is fluid i dont know if some metal pieces need lube inside the colum. and second when i let the clutch out all the way it makes a low siren noise like idk but what could this all be?
p.s. car has 170,000 miles and is in great condition for that many miles

RE: Some questions about my stang
Are you sure that your noise is coming from the steering column? It sounds like a balljoint issue. On those particular balljoints, Ford didn't build them with grease zerts, and over time they become dry. I know 170,000 is a lot of miles for original balljoints, but my 98 has 250,000 and it still has the originals.
The noise you're talking about when the pedal is up sounds like a lack of lube on the release bearing. You can remove your inspection plate and apply a small amount of high temp grease to the release bearing on the front where it makes contact with the pressure plate. That should take care of your problem.
With all that said, it's pretty hard to diagnose something on a computer without actually being able to see and hear the symptoms.

RE: thanks
The inspectioncover is a piece of thin aluminum that is held on with one bolt on the left side of the bellhousing. Just follow your clutch cable to the bellhousing and you will see your inspection cover.
