automatic shifter button wont push in?
hi guys and girls i have a problem with my shifter. when i press in the brake and get ready to bring the shifter out of park, it wont move, i push in the button and it doesnt move. i cant get it out of park! i was stuck at a light in the intersection last nite and had it in park just chillin and when i went to bring it out, it wouldnt move! so i had it towed home. some say its the button and part of the linkage. so im just wondering if anybody had any similar problems and what could it be and how can it be solved. thank tom.
play with the brake some more, turn the wheel, push upon the shifter and make sure it is all the way in park...it could be a brake fuse that has blown not allowing u to put the car in gear
I had the same thing happen in my old contour. Ford told me it locked up in which there is a button underneath the shifter assembly so you would have to tear it up to get to it. Other brand cars have their buttons outside the shifter. Go figure Ford would do this.
99Sleeper I know exactly what it is. Underneath the brake pedal there is a little 3 inch by 1 inch brake light switch. It will have one wire attached to it. That unit is bad. It is called a brake light switch and you can get them at any auto parts store for like 5 bucks. I had a 98 V6 and that stupid thing went out on me every other year. It is just a matter of removing the cotter pin on the brake pedal and removing the switch and putting the new switch back in. Let me know if you need any other assistance.
