Yea the 352 FE Big Block. I never really heard of it either, lots of torque. What are the expensive parts? Or it it the work/labor thats bad?
I have hardened 4.2L pistons, just a different crank. I got my parts from local shops, SSM, and Summit. 351/302 parts too. Most of my parts were donated
There was no labour involved in the cost of the engine, my Dad and I did it a few years ago. I just remeber that the parts cost much more then a 460 rebuild. distinctlet I remeber thinking "F# ! that much for head bolts!" ... The tools at the parts store told me they had no parts for a 352 but some for a 428... tools...

what are you talking about 351 and 302 parts for? they wont do with the 352, completley different creature unless your talking about the 3.8...

Can you have an engine bored at atypical mechanic shop or do you have to have a specialty shop? also... whould boring it to a 4.2 make it more or less reliable?

You don't bore out anything to add the extra displacement. The 4.2L comes from a longer stroke of the truck's crankshaft. The 3.8L/4.2L block is the same one. Any typcial machineshop can do thework for you if you don'tthink you can clean it all up.
