Default oil pressure

i hope someone can help. Well once in a while my oil pressure gauge starts to flicker like crazy wen i come to a stop or wen im idleling as if i have no oil pressure. When it starts to flicker like that a noise starts at the front of the engine. Its a kinda squeaky sound. like the noise drive belts make wen they r bad kind of. i already changed the oil pressure sending unit but it still does the same thing once in a while im thinking its probably the oil pump but i wanna make sure thats it cuz its hell to change the oil pump. if anyone knows wat the problem is please let me know.

What are your RPMs doing at that point (tach)?

Can you rev thru it?

Seems to me when I put a new long block (long story) in my car, oil pump is in the rear and driven off the cam via the distributor. distributor bearings could squeek (that would be a long shot) however your car would run like ****. Timing would be all over the place.

Befor I invested any time or $$ replaceing the oil pumpI would buy an oil pressure gauge, remove the sending unit and reinstall pressure gauge and run it up under the hood and duct tape it to the windsheild. When you here the squeek check pressure and tach.

You might be idling low, shaking the engine and causing the squeek.

my rpms are rite under 1000 maybe like at 800. i dont know wat they are suppose to be at. but as soon as i tap on the gas the oil pressure goes back to normal. when that noise starts i usually turn the car off n then turn it back on and it goes away. but ill try the oil pressure gauge. so if its is idleling low at that point wat would be the problem.

How many miles on the car? Didn't catch the year eather.Idle does not sound too bad 750~1000 to the high side. minumum factory idle RPMI beleave is 625rpm. average rpm is 650 to 700. Pending on miles and of course how hard it was driven,I'm leaning twards bearings. Crank and Rod bearings to be more percise. if you can rev threw the oil light but not the squeek, I think they may be related but not due to oil pressure. Watch the tach. another thing; make that thing squeek! Then isolate it. Use a stethoscope or wooden dowel rod. Place one end against your ear and touch the other end to components/parts you'll home in on it right quick.
