Hood pins?
Honestly, i hate how hood pins look. They just look off to me. But i was wondering when you would need them. I mean, i know what their used for, but what kind of power would you have to be pushing to actually worry about the hood flying up. Also, i just got a carbon fiber hood from ViS, and was wondering if i should worry about getting them because the hoods alot lighter.

It's never a bad idea to have hood pins on a car with a lighter, aftermarket hood. It's not REALLY common, but it's not THAT uncommon either, andthe last thing you want is your hood flying up and smashing your windshield and roof.

these are for appearance. any hood that needed them would tell you, and make the hood for that purpose.

BTW, these are a nice option because they can be painted to match, and sit nearly flush with the hood...
if you got a hood and it uses the stock latching mechinism you dont need pins and you should never swap the stocklatches out for just hood pins
i know a guy who had a tib and a CF hood and swapped out the stock latches for just hood pins and he was at the track and made a run right before me and when i got to the end of the track he was swerving at the end of the track and i couldnt figure out what was wrong until ipulled up next to him and the rivets ripped right out the CF hood which hold the pins down and the hood few up at like 85mph cracked the windshield smashed the roof smashed the a pillars and hearli smashed the sun roof because when it hit the windshield the CF cracked/bent and bent back to meet the line on the roof

Like I said, they're for appearance. The hood pins serve as an "exclamation point" and purposefully break-up the clean lines of the hood, and grab the attention of the gawker. It says "I go so fast I make you think your hood is about to go!", and even a little more subtle and cute: "I have to pin this hood down to keep the little beasty underneath from escaping!"
well, the last statement was for fun.

I know some one that was driving one day and the hood came up and smashed out her window shield, lol. So I would say, if you like driving really fast its a good idea to have them, because at high speeds the last thing you want is the hood crashing through the window shield.
