Default Ignition Problems

Hello all I’m new to the forum and I figured now is a good time to post. I have a 1994 3.8L v6 and looking for information that could help. When I'm turning the key it turns but won’t turn over. I tried jumping the car though it seems to have full power (headlights, stereo, dome light.. ect.) also I put new spark plugs and spark plug wires in about a month ago. Everything was running fine today until I went to my buddy’s house to watch the football game and now it just won’t start. I am thinking it could be the coils but I am not sure. Any information would help. Thanks

My experience has been that lights, even headlights, are absolutely no indication of the health of a battery. If your battery is over three years old with those symptoms, get a new one. (and maybe even less than three years)

i had my ignition replaced because one of my wires were burnt out and my windows wouldnt work. when they went into the wires to fix the window one they noticed the iginition was bad.. and one of my igition wires wasnt even connected.. maybe this is your problem too.. wires went bad and disconnected.

i hope this kinda helps.

Did it start when you jumped it? If not it's not your battery. Is it turning over slow, even when you jumped it? Could be a bad starter.

If you have lights/stereo/ect., then it's not the battery, it's either your alternator, bad fuse, or your coil pack. It may also be your starter, but if that's going out then it will not turn over, it will only click.

I've replaced lots of starters that still turned over, they were just turning to slow to get the engine to fire.

Well, like I said, it may be going out. All the ones I've delt with were totally dead and wouldn't even barely turn the engine, most of the time it just clicked, but that's not to say that it doesn't have enough juice to not, at least, halfway turn the engine.

In short, any of those things I listed could be the problem.

When it turns it sounds normal just wont turn over. I thought it could be the starter but like what was said above it would turn slower or just click. I will be going out today once I am off work to look at it. When jumping the battery it didn't seem to have any effect. I have been thinking about it I put 8mm wires on when replacing the stock wires. I don't knwo if that would take a toll on the coil or not.
