Default A/C problem

Anyone know what controls the direction of the air flow(motor etc.). My a/c is stuck in the defrost direction.

It's controlled with vacume pressure. Look for a broken vacume line. I would start in the engine compartment. Just had the same problem 2 weeks ago.

no nothing to do with gas. No matter what a/c setting i put it on the vent is stuck on defrost. How do these vacuum lines look? I never had to deal with any vacuum lines before.

What year is your car?? Most likely, it is controlled by vacuum block. Your problem is either a hose or the vacuum block, or your lever has become disconnected from the block. You can start by checking the vacuum lines running to the block, then the ones running into the car (look under dash on drivers side if my memory is correct). You can also take out the center console and look behind the A/C controls to see if there is a problem there. Good luck.

Should be behind the controls for your heater/A/C unit. Pull the trim off, unscrew the controls and gently pull it out. You will see it. The main connector is underhood and goes through the firewall.

Your Vacume block is located on the drivers side of your engine compartment at the firewall. There will be several hoses that come off of this. The one that concers you sould be a thin plastic line that provides vacume to your ac system to operate the direction of your air. Without this it will only blow out your defrost vents. Check that line for breaks first. Then maybe check behind your ac controls. If the line is broken you can usually splice it back together by sliding a small peice of rubber hose that fits snugly between the two peices of broken hose. If the end is broken then fish the old broken off hose out of the connecting rubber and insert the tube. There should be enough slack. This is easy and won't take long. The other lines out of your block should run to the Upper intake Manifold and your brake booster.
