Default 98 leaking oil

i havent had a chance to look at it yet but ive got a friend who says his 98 v6 just started leaking oil lately. he says its always dripping and that the bottom of his oil pan is covered in oil. ive got a few ideas of why this might be happening. i think he might have jacked the front of the car up a little bit using the oil pan a while back. im guessing it probably warped it or something and it isnt sealing right. another guess is that when he or whoever changed his oil last they didnt tighten something completely or maybe left the old rubber filter ring up and put the new filter with a new ring over it...last time i saw that happen though oil spewed everywhere when the guy started his car so i dont think its that but i figured its possible.

any other ideas as to what it might be before i go look at it here in a few days?

Default RE: 98 leaking oil

Front seal. Whenever I change my oil I always have to spray some brake clean on the front of the pan. It's not a leak really, more like a light mist buildup right in front. In my case it seems normal, nothing to worry about, it hasn't got any worse in 30k miles. His may have just finally gone out.
