Turbo progress....
Well, the progress on the turbo project has been slow because of funds and work. I went to the salvage yard and got exhaust manifolds for a 96 3.8l for $50. I test fitted and used the passenger side backwards on the driver side. Had to cut off the flange and about 2.5" of pipe, but it fits pretty good and points the exhaust right where it needs too. Currently I am welding some 3" pipe up to extend it under/around the power steering pump. Passenger side is another issue. The pipe hits the engine mount. I will have to cut the individual cylinder pipes off with a couple inches of pipe and reroute it, not too much trouble but time consuming. I also removed the A/C compressor and rerouted the serpentine belt without using an a/c eliminator kit. Works fine so far. I will use the bracket for the A/C to mount the turbo, especially during mock-up. Turbo will face front to rear on passenger side with exhaust exiting out passenger side where exhaust manifold used to exit. I also got rid of EGR while I was at it. I use the car as my daily driver, so it is hard to get a lot done during the week, but I will keep plugging away. I will post some pics when I get a chance. Oh, its a T4 with a .60 AR compressor and a 1.15 AR exhaust.
generally a T4 is alittle small but with that big exh AR it will act like alittle bigger turbo. it won't spool right off of idle like a small turbo will and poop out on top.
i'll be curious to see the numbers when done. how much boost are planning to run?? seems like it may be a pretty good setup

Planning on 4 pounds of boost until I can upgrade injectors and MAF and a tune. I sized the turbo using a turbo calculator and the numbers look pretty good. The calculator actually recommended the t4 at the boost levels I am planning on running. Eventually I will run 10-12 pounds. I am on the fence a little because ssm is now selling the m112 adaptor and I am a fan of roots style supercharging. However, a turbo is more efficient and I have already done so much this way. Much more work on my end but it will be fun and hopefully others will give it a try. My only complaint is the way ford wastes so much space under the hood. Makes fitting components a real chore if you want to keep it clean and keep exhaust away from other parts. That is the real challenge.
i remember when you posted your idea for a T4 before we flamed you alittle but that big exh AR makes it better. still not optimal at all for a single turbo setup but it should do OK to about 9psi
a T70 with about a .85 compressor AR and 1.0 exh AR would make a damn nice single.full boost would come on about 3400-3800 and be very happy at redline. i worry that your T4 may poop out on top but it should be OK with that big AR
