Default head gasket

Im a kid and im looking for my first car. I found a 95 mustang with 120,000miles on it thats in my price range but it needs a head gasket. I was wondering how much it would cost to get it fixed. Also does it effect anything else in the car when it has a blown head gasket. thanks for u help

Default head gasket

The affected head will have to be trued up because it's bound to be slightly warped from the coolant/stretched head bolt/other defects that caused the blown head gasket in the first place. The other head needs to be machined so both heads will match, and you wouldn't want to replace only one gasket anyway.

Basically, you're looking at the cost of head work, gaskets, labor, coolant, silicone.

You have to be careful buying this car because a blown head gasket WILL hurt the catalytic converter and O2 sensor(s) if run for long because antifreeze is a no-no in a catalytic system. It ruins the catalysts. Also, the nearby piston and/or cylinder may be hurt because of the presence of water in the cylinder during operation (water doesn't compress very well in an engine, and can break or bend parts).

Makes you wonder why the owner is wanting to ditch the car, doesn't it?

BE CAREFUL YOU DON'T GET RIPPED!
