Default Steering Locks while running

Hi Guys,
I have 2003 Ford Mustang V6 77K miles on it. I have a pecuilar problem it first occured on thi sunday, while turning left my steering locked, like the way it happens when you turn the engine off, but the engine was still running.
The "Service Engine soon" light comes up. I restarted the car and the problem dissapeared. I had the problem again the next day and I did the same to resolve te problem .
I checked my Power steering fluid there is fluid in there but its a lil dirty. ( I can post videos if needed)
I wanted to know if any of you had a similar problem and how it was resolved.
Thanks.

The pump could be shot, drain and refill then check it after a while. If it comes out dirty then i would get a new power steering pump.

Does the wheel lock, or does it just become difficult to turn? If it locks then there is most likely a problem in the column. The steering wheel locking mechanism is attached to the ignition cylinder. That's why thieves have to bust the column/lock to steal cars or they won't be able to steer at all.
