Default V6 vs 5L

Hey guys nd gals,

I am cleaning house-all my toys are being sold-so that means im gunna have about $13,000 to spend

Wondering what i was going to buy for my next car. Obviously the first thing that came to mind was a Mustang
I was wondering whether to build a nasty 5.0 or a 99-03 V6
Im lookin for around 400-500hp and a STREET CAR

Let me know what you think

Having a modded v6 I have mixed feelings. To get to 400-500 rwhp you're going to have to spend some money. For the same money invested in a 5.0 you'd be that much farther along. However, having a v6 that can spank Cobras, vettes, etc has it's own rewards.

13 grand? honestly, id use that as a down payment on a really nice 30k car, and have some low payments, and a brand new car with warranty. but if u wanna invest in modding, i like the new edge v8s...you could get a nice used one for that price, and mod it nicely, for 13k.

How about a hayabusa, and 4 grand left in your pocket. That'll keep up with everything this side of a F1 car.

Correction, modern 5.0 = 87-95.

I agree with the post about about putting a good down payment on a new car. 5.0s are excellent building block as it wouldn't take all that much to make that engine hit 400-500 rwhp. Only problem is the cars they come in are old, and old cars are going to be prone to "old car problems."

400 rwhp = supercharger, heads, intake (cam opt)
400 rwhp = heads, cam, intake, stroker
400 rwhp = heads, cam, intake, N2O
500 rwhp = supercharger, heads, cam, intake, stroker

As stated, not much needed, however the downfall with the 5.0 is strictly going to be in the age of the car. The best thing to do would be to buy a fox or Sn-95 5.0 with a butt load of miles, but doesn't need any body work. It will push you pretty close to using up that 13000 and I'm assuming you'd be able to do all/most the work yourself, but this route would be, by far, the cheapest.

TKO 500 Transmission kit - $2100 (comes with transmission, shifter base, belhousing, yoke, and oil)
Spec Stage 2 Clutch - $329
Spec Aluminum Flywheel - $369 or Spec Billit Steel Flywheel - $249
Ford Racing Aluminum Driveshaft - $199
Detroit True Track Differential - $469
347 Forged Stroker Engine - $1899
Steeda # 19 Camshaft (good cam for most setups) - $199 you can go more aggressive if you want, but this is a good street cam
Your choice of heads
Your choice of valve covers
Your choice of intake
42lb injectors - $389
255lb hr fuel pump - $99
MAF set to injector size - $299
All engine gaskets, bolts, etc - allow $300
**Supercharger - $3000-4000
