Hydrolocking and CAI's

Hydrolocking and CAI's
Hello, I'm brand new to cars, and I was looking at possible "beginner mods." From what I've read CAI's are a popular option, but I find it kind of risky to get one due to hydrolocking. I'll also be moving to the Lake Michigan coast (all WIxLake effect=horrid water) so how much more risky would it be for me to try using a CAI? I don't have a warranty on my car so I'm not really worried there, but is a CAI worth trying out or too risky? Is the performance created by one even over 10 hp?
Thanks,
Jim H.

RE: Hydrolocking and CAI's
never heard of a mustang hydrolocking. its not the easiest for water to reach the the filter on our cars compared to some other cars, from what i can tell at least
i wouldnt worry about it. i know i dont worry about it with mine

I was worried about that to, and at the very least you can spend like 20 bucks and get a water bypass valve so the water doesnt get sucked in when your driving through the atlantic. But other then that iv never had to worry about that. I have the BBK CAI so its in my fender, but i also have the cobra heat extracting hood which lets in a good bit of water.

Yea, but that water doesn't come close to the air filter, so you're safe. Remember, water on the engine doesn't cause any harm other than rust if it puddles up on the iron components.

Actually the engine will still run with water high enough to hit it, but you'll need some new shoes, since yours will be soaked with whatever crap you're driving through.
If you just want to feel better, locate the bottom of the filter and measure it's distance from the ground, and then go to your door and see how high that line is. You'll find that it's more than high enough to clear anything. If you hydrolock, then the engine replacement will be the least of your concerns
