Modifications
I have a 2001 3.8L mustang. it has about 80,000 miles on it....i was thinking about putting in 3.73 gears but im still skeptical about it because of the price of the gears and install running aroung $650 all together. Can anyone who has done this modification tell me if it is worth all the money or not? sense my car is already starting to get old with that many miles am i better off saving the money and buying a newer car?

no. in simple terms, it was cheaper for ford to build a rear end for the v6 that only allowed 1 wheel to spin. a tlok/posi/etc goes in the rear differential and allows both wheels to have power. its suggested to do this modification with gears because compared to the price of parts for your rear diff, the install is expensive, and you dont want to have to pay it twice when it could just be done the first time with not much extra work.

80k miles is fairly young. ive heard of mustangs still running strong with 200k on them. really, a car can last forever, if you wanna replace major things (engine, tranny, etc.). its all about the maintainance. my car has 140k on it, and (knocking on wood), runs better than a lot of stangs around town that have far less miles. mod it!
