Default HID Lights

I recently installed a HID light kit I got from my uncle for free, however after doing some research I'm starting to think I should put the stock lights back. The Kit is a HL 9004 8000K. I had read that these lights will burn out the stock wiring harness in my car, because of an increased voltage, but i had also thought the HIDs ran on a lower voltage then stock bulbs, is there any truth there? Also, my hi-beam indicator is on constantly and when i switch to hi-beams the lights have a strobe effect (the flash on and off rapidly.) Is that because the kit is a single function, and doesn't offer a hi/lo option? Regardless, the reason I installed the kit was because the stock lights on my mustang were less than adequate, any ideas for improving visibility? and any methods for removing the corrosion on the lights themselves? This is my first mod to the car, and the installation was fairly simple, although I have some mechanical experience, electrics are not my strong suit. Hopefully someone can help me out.

Thanks.

Although the initial voltage (for firing the HID bulb) is much higher than stock (hence the need for ballasts) the operating voltage is much less than stock. As far as the highbeam indicator & 'flickering', you'll need to go over the install instructions and/or call tech support on the mfg ... there may be a problem with the ballasts, grounding, etc. I'd start with that.

You can search around for methods of 'cleaning/clearing' your OEM headlamps, there's plenty of info around about that. Good luck.

Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't you suppose to have a 9007? And no the HIDs won't burn anything out, I've had mine for 2 years.

Thanks for the help, I'll look into the wiring when i have some time this weekend, I found a couple of sites saying to sand the lights with heavy to fine sandpaper and then go over with a semi-chrome to clear them up, if I wreck them they needed to be replaced anyway.

And yea I'm pretty sure they are supposed to be the 9007 since those are a dual function (Hi.Lo beam) kit, Like i said I got this kit for free, and where I live the hi beam is rarely used anyway, I'll just have to swap back to the stock ones when i go thru inspection next year. I'm pretty sure the problems im having are because its the single function not the dual function kit.

oh, and does anyone know if having the 9004 not the 9007 will do any damage to the car? (I hope not)
