shifter handle

I bought a new shifter handle for my 1993 Mustang LX, but I can't figure out how to get my stock shifter handle off. I have an AOD transmission, does anyone know how to get the shifter handle off?

I don't know for your car specifically but on most cars they just twist off.

I tried twisting it off but it won't budge, I tried for like an hour to do anything I could think of, and it still won't come off.
