Default MPG Help...

Hi, I'm trying to boost the gas mileage on my 2004 3.8l. Could someone please list out to me my options for better gas mileage, and how much I'd gain with each? (I know thats a tall task, but I also know you guys are some of the best mustangers around. Thanks.

Not a whole lot out there to help you out. A k&n filter, tuner, and maybe exhaust will help. The best thing you can do is just drive for eficiency and keep your car well maintained. If you spend $40 for an airfilter, $250 for a tuner, and $250 for an exhaust, where's the savings at?

What kind of gas mileage are you getting right now?

it would also help to tell us what kinda mileage your car has, your driving habits, and transmission type as well.

well you should expect that mileage when you drive like its stolen.

if you have an auto try taking off slower.
if you have a manaul. shift at 2,000 rpms and dont punch it.

as for the actual car....
air filter.
oil change.
inflate tires.
tune up.

all should help at least a miniscule amount.

I just bought a 07 convertible last month. The first week with the car I was getting 15mpg. Now, 20.4 mpg (last fill up).

I changed the air filter to a K&N ($45)
My wife bought me a SCT tuner ($369)... for my b-day I love her!!!
Oil change ($22)
Filled the air with Nitrogen ($35) or just make sure your tires are properly inflated.
My mechanic recommended, a product called 44K (bought it on eBay $16 for 2 cans)
My wife works with a local auto auction and they use Ethos FR (also available on eBay)in all their vehicles. It adds between 1 to 2 extra miles per gallon.
I also bought E3 spark plugs, but I haven't installed them as of yet. I am waiting on a new wiring set.[/ul]
I'm now happy with the MPGs. I knew I was not going to get the same 26mpg was getting onthe civic.

1) Congrats on the 07 convertible. I've been trying to talk my mom into buying herself a gt convertible (that she'll never drive :P)
2) Thank you very much for your contributions to my question, that was EXACTLY what I was looking for and i'm going to attempt to follow similar to what you did. if theres any kind of kudos or 'you rock' function on this forum, i'd give it to you if I knew how (if you want to explain..) haha. Thanks much man.
