Default pinging

Hello all!

I have a 99 3.8L and i have developed this ping on acceleration. I have done all that I can do, as i know nothing about TPI. I have done regular maintenance, except change plugs at this point. Octane boost, Heet and fuel injector cleaner haven't helped at all.

So if any of you have any ideas, I would love to hear them

What kind of gas and octaneare you using? Have you tried using 93 octane? I would try that before replacing plugs and wires.

if the pinging your hearing is detonation, then going up in fuel octane should cure it, but you shouldnt have that problem. If your car is in a bad state of tune and youve developed alot of carbon deposits in your combustion chamber, then that would contribute to the pinging. Run the tank to almost empty, then add "techron" fuel injector cleaner because I know that works... then add a full tank of 89 or 91 octane gas (I assume you were running 87). After it clears up go back to the 87.

Thanks for responding! I usually run 89 or higher octane fuel. I am very constitent with fuel injector cleaner and making sure my timing is good. I have, on at least 3 occasions, run to empty than used Lucas or Valvoline fuel injector cleaners, neither have seemed to work.

I am planning on pulling my plugs this weekend and checking them, I am hoping that they are bad. I grew up working on older cars with my dad, but electronic fuel injection and tuned port injections shares the hell out of me.

Thanks again for your advice and I will let you know how it comes out!
