Yeah, just touching the wires to your battery terminals will work just fine... I just never really felt comfortable doing it because... well, it's a car battery lol... Just make sure you don't ground yourself on the fender or anything 
And for mine on my old civic, all I did was ground the negative wires to the alternator ground (ring terminal... no need to splice wires), then run my positives to a switch and from the switch to the battery (ideally there should've been a fuse somewhere along the line, but this is the real world

Though I nearly crapped my pants when i was balancing the headlight on the side of the battery and it almost fell as i was putting the wires on the terminals. Thought i was going to accidentally grab both terminals. Did anyone wind up changing both the low and high beams? I bought the H1 lumincs and the Sylvania SilverStar H1 bulbs from AM within the order. Did you open the headlight up to replace the low beam bulb? I sealed it with the silicone sealant already...=[
