Default Crash Sensor

1997 V6 3.8L coupe
The air bag light continues to either flash or stay on. The Ford dealership said it was the front right crash sensor. Any info on replacing it would be greatly appreciated.

Okay, it's code 41 - RH Primary Crash Sensor/Return Circuit Open. I bought the car used and it had been in an accident, but repaired. What do I need to do to stop the blinking? Thanks

I had the light go on and off for forever in my old Taurus. I would guess all you would have to do is buy a new one, (a old one is most likely already messed up) and unplug the old one, remove the bolts holding it and reverse directions to add the new one. Grab a Haynes repair manual if you don't already have one and check it out.

Default Airbag Crash Sensor Wiring Harness

Update, but still need more info please. The crash sensor under the hood is intact and connected, but I do not know what wire(s) to look for by the glove compartment. What color, how many wires, etc. Thanks for any help.

I had a front driver side fender bender, My airbag did not go off but it did affect the sensor, the sensor looked just fine from the outside. Call up a ford dealership or call a parts store like Autozone and ask how much they cost. Should be a plug and play operation.

I never replaced it because in the great state of TX that does not make you fail inspection, but I have had to buy over 3 different gas caps for that damn car.

It may be a pinched wire that is causing the code to pop up. I would see how much a new sensor is because tracking down a pinched wire requires a voltage reader, a wiring diagram and a lot of time.

Thanks Ooterman. I also live in the great state of Texas, but would like knowing my airbag will deploy if necessary. Texas aslo doesn't require your odometer to be functioning either to pass inspection. You can't roll it back, but you can ride around with a broken odometer gear forever! Sounds shady to me.

Ya I know, my Odometer doesn't work either. And sadly I was new to mustangs when I bought it and did not look to see if it was moving when I test drove it. Now I have a 97 mustang that will forever be stuck at 98K miles.

Where in TX?

Red Oak, north of Waxahachie. Odometer gear is $25, $40 if you want to be safe and replace both. Not difficult to do if you want yours working again. Ford dealership wanted $350 because "their" kit comes with the speedometer stuff also. Rip off!
