You won't see any negative effects using a higher octane, but you won't see any positive effects either.

Thats not true in my case...I saw positive effects with 91 in the fact that my horrible pinging went away with 91 opposed to 87 which is killing my car right now...

That is a band aid not a fix. The problem is still there you just can't hear it anymore, much like people who just turn up their radio so they won't hear a squeak.

No higher octane generally will not cause any issues, however most engines, more specifically, their ecus and timing/ignition systems, are programmed to burn 87, so running higher octane will not really yield any benefits unless either you're moded to the extent in which you need higher octane, or you have a problem and it can band aid it. Stay with 87 and save the extra dollars.
