Default Undesired Warning Lights (ABS and Traction Control)

I am hoping that there is someone knowledgeable of this issue and can direct me accordingly. My best hope is that I'm told "it's no big deal, a $5.00 flux capaciter or a 25 cent widget will fix it" instead of the "oh crap, get a 2nd on your house to fix it".

I have a 2004 3.9 Liter unmodified Mustang. When I'm about 3 miles into my commute, the ABS warning light will come on. Simulateously with the ABS light, the light on the Trac Off button (by the shifter) will light up. It will stay on for about 10 miles or so, and then turn off. When it turns off, the traction control warning light (on the dash) will light up and then all 3 lights turn off simultaneoulsy. This only occurs once during my commute (I only have about 10 more miles to go so I don't know whether it will reoccur should I be driving longer than my commute (25 miles total).

This happens every day, each direction (morning and evening commutes). This has been going on every commute for about 4 weeks. While the lights are on, my brakes are working fine and I don't notice stronger braking (I would think if braking was ABS assisted, I would notice a difference). Also, I don't notice any change in my fuel mileage (if that makes a difference.

I'm going to take the car to a dealer over the next week or so, but this option makes me see the 2nd mortgage option coming true. If this is not a dealer specific issue and a non-dealer mechanic could fix this, I'm not under warranty any longer so that is an option too. I'm not real mechanically inclilned, so me fixing it is definately not an option.

I appreciate any advice provided. Thanks.

Get in line bro. Mine does the same thing, only the light just stays on. I have it narrowed down to the front brakes, and I believe it's a wheel speed sensor, but until I can get an ohm meter, or one of those really fancy brake code readers, I just gotta live with it. Do a thread search for ABS problems, then get your reading glasses on and settle in.

Sounds like the ABS sensors.
Get a used set and replace them.
