My friend was following me last night in his Corvette, he told me my car sounded horrible. The scraping noise is constant; when I'm on the gas it constantly makes that noise. When I come to a stop it sounds like a friggin helicopter or airplane overhead. I live close to Newark Airport so I keep thinking it's a plane! Should I not drive my car?

Ya dont drive it. As for the so called cam sensor issue, One of two things would happen if it went out. Or three, First the car would not start. Two the car would start but id take about 5 seconds or two to do that. Thats because the ecu has no idea where No 1 cylinder is. And three and this i have seen before. The will start but will shutdown after about a minute of running. So the sqeeling could be a idler pully bering is bad. Water pump bearing is bad. Power steering pump pully is bad etc. The brake issue. Get some jack stands and check them out NOW. You can take my addvise. Used to work for ford. So i do know what im talkin about. Hope this helps

Thanks a lot Chris. My dad has a friend who just fixed his car so he's gonna let him look at the brakes problem. I'm more worried about the brakes because it sounds bad and it is a vital part to drive the car lol... the squealing noise doesn't affect my driving at all, but I should still get it checked out. Thanks again for the help.

Hey no problem. Im going to bet its a pully. Idk about fords but i know that other manufatures always have problems with the idler pully. Id check that first

If the idler pulley does what I think it does, I think that might be the problem. The car squeals when it's idling but once the temp is optimal it usually shuts up.

I would have to agree here, I had a squealing noisy tensioner too(near the alt), I took it off and regreased it, back to quiet. I also had to change my powersteering pump that was leaking out the rear seal, that pulley was making an ungodly noise too. I'm betting on the tensioner here or pulley. You need to get a friend to help on cold start and see if you can pinpoint the noise. As for your brake issue, I'm betting it's the fronts that are making the noise, change the pads before you have to buy rotors to. If it's the rears, there a little more difficult, but they last a whole lot longer than fronts. It looks like you have an auto so you will wear them out a little quicker than a manual.

Well I would love to take mine off and regrease them but I'll probably **** something up so I think I'll just get my friend to take a look... I wish I was more handy with doing things but I'm getting better... I'm a 19 year old college student lol... but you guys here help out a lot and I learn a lot... I just don't wanna mess something up with my engine. And yes it is an auto.
