Default Overheating

Hi

I bought this 1998 Mustang

after driving it for 15min car gets very heat up (temp gauge come almost at middle!)
and when I pop the hood I can feel the temperature, most parts gets untouchable (eg: hood struts)

previous owner not use to drive this car much (he had another one)
and there was a lot of dirt (oily stuff) in coolant tank, which I cleaned and thinking to flush coolant but I also never saw the big fan attach with radiator working, when it turners on? is there any way to check if its working?

other then coolant is there any thing else I should check to make sure car wont overheat?

please let me know and thanks for checking the post : )

Edit: I just read your post, you car is running fine, just give the radiator a flush and forget about it.

normal operating temp is in the middle of the temp guage considering you have thousands of tiny explosions every minute its goin to get hot
