Default P340 code (cam pos sensor) + grabbing

After doing a little research I see that others have had this code and, in some, the same engine buck I'm feeling. I thought for sure the trans was going but it seems I may just need a new sensor/synchro.

Informed opinions welcome.

Anyone ever decide on the necessity of a alignment tool if I have to replace the synchronizer? Source for purchase? Cost? Can I set engine to TDC #1 and eyeball it?

Again, informed opinions solicited.

Tks,

Bob

BTW, alternator replacement is NOT the answer to this problem despite what may be found in the archives!

Let me finish this conversation with myself by noting that the fix is:

NAPA part 600-2900, $60 out the door, cam syncher, new cam pos sensor, and alignment tool.

Thanks!
