Any codes?? Seems like a charging system or ignition system problem. If you have a multimeter hook it up while its running to see the voltage. If the voltage is within range (I cant remember I think 13.5-15.5Vs???), then while its running unplug each connector to your coil (on top of spark plug) and if you find any cylinders that do not affect the idle then there is your problem.
Yeah I am pretty sure, I think they will bench test it as well as check the voltage with their multimeter while your car is running. If you cant drive it there, then obiosly take the alternator with you.

i had that same problem when i owned my first 98gt it left me on the interstate
snake lol man i just got stranded in a neighborhood.. and volcom when it is running none of my gauges work! and my lights are SOOOO dim.. and before all of my electrical stuff would shut off ( gauges woould go from bottom to top and radio would shut off and lights would flicker)
if it was a coil pack the car would miss really bad and the way to trouble shoot that is unplug one at a time wile the car is running and if the one coil you unplug doesnt make the car idle any worse meaning that if it runs the same thats a bad coil if thats the problem then i would buy msd coils there an upgrade and have a full life time warranty and you can replace them anytime for free there only like $325 on www.jegs.com or www.americanmuscle.com
