Default Air Diverter Valve

I took my 2000 down to have a diag ran as the check engine light is on. They told me that the air injector assembly needs to be replaced because the diverter valve is melted and not functioning. What exactly is a diverter valve and where is it located under the hood?

I'm not sure but I think they usually have to do with a turbo..like a bov. Diverter valves come into play when the throttle body is closed like in deceleration and such. the air has to go somewhere and thats through the diverter valve..I think.

Hmmm... I don't have a turbo so I think it must be something else. What valve is involved in the air injection assembly?
