Mods vs. MPG
My question is due mods affect the gas milage? I mean if you turbo or s/c a car, it has more air, doesnt that mean you need more fuel? But I maybe wrong. I mean does a dual conversion hurt the mpg or a cold air intake? Please let me know, gas is $2.65 in someplaces here, but I only pay $2.20 at work! But still gas is crazy!
My MPG went up with my mods so far by almost 2 mpg. Everyone said my 4:10 gears would kill my gas mpg but it didn't. Maybe because of my exhaust, CAI and underdrive pullie taking the drag off my engine.
I always thought any kind of intake decreases your MPG because it is allowing more air into your engine. More air passing through o2 sensor means computer will inject more fuel into cylinders. (Decreasing MPG)
On the other hand, stuff like underdrive pulleys, exhaust, weight reduction all increase MPG because they are freeing up load.
Spark plugs and wires should increase MPG, not noticible to you though unless your spark plugs are doing crappy sparks to begin with.
Stuff like altering CAM profiles and changing out computer chips decrease MPG because they alter how much fuel goes into your cylinder. (more fuel = more power = less MPG)
Oil changes increase your MPG, and this is one of the most dramatic changes in my MPG. Dirty oil really slows down the engine.
These are all my personal thoughts and experiences, don't take them for granted.

My reasoning is: CAI's increase mpg because more air means less fuel...you can only fit so much. More fuel doesn't mean more power, straight fuel is less combustive than a fuel/air mix. And vica versa because if you only have air then...well nothing will happen.
That's what I think...makes sense to me.
