I have read a few different things about the aod. some sat with it on it just saves gas. But some say with it off it uses more but performs better. Im confused which one is it

o/d is 4th gear in the autos. if you turn it off, you waste gas. leave it on and if you want to downshift, pedal to the metal and your computer will downshift for you. if you turn off o/d, you will run insane high rpms at cruising speeds and just burn gas extremely fast

ya its similar to..... running on the highway in forth gear in a five speed manual tranny and your AOD not in overdrive lots of RPMS and lots of gas down the tubes for no reason leave overdrive on

So it would put the rpm's up into the powerband. so running at the rpm's where we make the most power would mean better performance wouldnt it

You don't need better performance if you're just cruisin. If your going to race, when you punch the tranny will downshift a gear or two, and away you go. So leaving it off will do you no good unless you are at 100+ MPH when the tranny is wanting to shift to the O/D.

od is around .72:1 and is 4th gear. turning it off just blocks the tranny from up-shifting into 4th

3rd is 1:1

OD turned off will only help you stay in the powerband at about 80+mph in third. it won't help performance under that speed nor does it affect any other gears performance

turning the OD off does nothing to help off the line acceleration nor will it help a stock geared stang in the 1/4 mile

leave overdrive on unless you want to rev out the rpms and waste gas by losing your top gear
