2002 PATS System Info wanted
Hi Guys, I tried to post this earlier but it never went on the forum, so here goes again.
I have a 2002 Mustang Convertible V6
Here is the chain of events that lead up to my problem.
1/ I got locked out the car
2/ I used the spare key to enter (I thought it was chipped, not sure how you tell but I think it is)
3/ The car turns over on both keys but will not start.
4/ I checked the spark and was sparking fine
5/ No fuel pressure in the fuel rail (Shraeder Valve)
6/ Check fuel switch in trunk (was switched on)
so car turns over with ignition spark but no fuel pressure
Car was running fine till the lock-out so I think the anti theft device may have switched of the fuel pump?
Any one know anything about this PATS system??? does it disable the fuel pump? but not the ignition (weird)
How can I check the pump I would like to run 12v feed direct to the pump to check operation without removing from car.
Anyone know the wire colors that lead to the pump and where I can find them.
Or the points where I can check the fuel pump feed voltage
I could not find a wiring diagram on line so I ordered one but it will take a week to get here.
anyone have knowledge?? also any tips on removing the fuel pump just in case it is bad pump??
I am sure that the PATS system is at fault here, the remote opens the doors/trunk OK
I tried disconnecting the battery, cant find anything in the owners manual about re-setting the anti theft device.
please dont write in to say.."take it to the Dealers"
Some sensible input please
Thanks in anticipation
Stan

Is the Theft Light flashing when you try to start the car? If it is then it definitely is a PATS issue disabling the fuel pump. You will need to take it to the dealer w/ BOTH keys. They will reprogram it and you will be on your merry way.
I had problems with the PATS system(twice in 3 months), just got a new tune with PATS disabled. Now any key(that I get cut) starts the car. Not too bad if you lose your keys alot since spares only cost me $5.
If the theft light isnt flashing, get someone to hit the bottom of the gas tank while your trying to start the car. Sometimes this kicks the pump in, but you will need a new pump ASAP.

The Theft light is not flashing when I try to start, so I am now leaning towards the fuel pump. (thumping the tank did not work)
I see that by the fuel filler side on the fuel tank there is a 7 pin plug, I assume this goes to the fuel pump and the fuel gauge sender.
There are two banks of pins (3 & 4) in the plug
the wires on the male plug (tank) side are
1/green & white-
2/Red & Black-
3/black or grey with pink tracer
4/ Black & orange
then
1/ Pink
2/ Grey &red
3/ Black & white
I am thinking that if I apply 12 volts to two of the pins this should fire up (and test) the fuel pump, trouble is without a wiring diagram I do not know what wire goes where,,,can anyone help.
Also if I have to drop the tank to replace the pump and tips on doing this? tank is about half full.
I am confident enough to do the job, but sometimes its the little tips and knowledge that save a lot of aggravation,
so any help out there?
Thanks
Stan
If you can wait until monday, I can find out for ya.
Though, can you not hear the fuel pump cycle on and off if you cycle the key? it's faint, but you can usually hear it if everything in the car is silent...

I dont hear the pump, and there is no fuel pressure at the rail shreader valve.
I wanted to check the wires and also just try and fire up the pump directly to see if it will run.

I have the drawings for 98 and it is likely the same.
But first, have you checked the inertial switch to make sure it hasn't tripped? It's sole purpose is to disable the fuel pump.
That said the power flow is thus:
12v from the 20 amp fuse in the engine compartment fuse box
it goes to the fuel pump relay inside the CCRM input is on c192 pin 11
When the PCM commands the fuel pump relay to close 12v leaves the CCRM on C192 pin 5 this is on a dk green with yellow tracer wire
That wire goes through c259 and c405 before going to the Inertial Fuel shutoff switch
if the iFS is closed (not tripped) the 12v goes to the fuel pump on a brown with pink tracer wire.
The fuel pump is grounded at g300 under the rear of the center console.
