Default 1996 Mustang V6 noise

My wifes car is making a load ticking noise. It gets worse when you put it in gear but still makes the ticking moise when you turn the car off. It just ticks a few times however. th ticking gets faster as you rev the motor. Car runs perfect but the noise is driving us crazy. Any ideas?

yeah that sounds like a header is cracked, do you notice the ticking sound become less severe as the car warms up? if so then its most likely the metal expanding and sealing the crack

Hmmm...

Its really rare for that years header to crack, also the fact that it ticks a few more times after he turns it off is a puzzler too...

Otherwise everything sounds like a cracked header, no matter how rare it is for that year it can still happen. Its just odd that it does it after the car is turned off.

Are you talking about the "Ting ting" sound that exhaust makes when it cools down when you shut it off?

Otherwise I really dont know what would cause that AFTER the engine is shut off.
