Default 2000 V6 Auto wont go into Drive :/

it goes in reverse but wont engage in Forward, Besides the actual tranny what else could cause this? Worst case scenario I have looked into replacement transmissions, I see that 2001+ trannys sell for $150-200 in my area compared to $450 for one form a 99-00 what will happen if i install a 2001+ tranny in my 2000?

-thanks

Possible detent cable needs to be adjusted. Detent cable connects the shifter to the tranny. If it's stretch it may not be pulling the cable to the correct position.

Its quite possible that your brake light fuse went out, if it does its suppose to lock you out of everything but your lock could be loose enough to go into reverse.

The way to bypass this is as you turn the key slowly on (But dont turn it on) at the same time push the button on the shifter in and pull back.

You might have to try it a few times to get it to work, but if it does then you know what problem you have.

If that doesnt fix the problem you it could be what was said above.
