Default Charging System Light

I was driving down the highway with cruise control and I mistakingly pulled out of gear without realizing it and my mustang redlined and the charging light came on and it won't go away. My battery is newer and it read 12.8 volts with the multimeter. The alternator was between 14.4 and 14.8 volts during load tests. The fuses under the hood are all good. Any ideas?

I've heard of high revs damaging an alternator but no first hand on it.

I suppose it is possible that the battery, or something else in the electrical system could be damaged, not very likely, but the higher the revs, the higher the output of the alternator, the spike could have gotten to something, but it should have tripped a fuse before damaging something.

the light disappeared today on my way back from work.. so i guess all is good. Retested the alternator and it's still showing 14-15 volts. Stumped.
