Need a rack and pinion.
Well I need a new rack and pinion for my mustang. I'm looking to try and find a good cheap one. manual or power i don't care just something that will work and not have play in it. my tie rod ends are good they were replaced recently but the rest needs help now. I would consider a used one as well if it were off a fairly low miles car.
Basically I'm asking for help to find a good priced unit. If anyone knows a website or has one they would part with let me know, i would greatly appreciate it.

i guess i will contact the all mustang salvage yard near my house and see if they have any good ones. by the way the $120 is on rock auto's website. good place bought a few sensors from them for different cars and they ship fast in case anyone wants to know.

Just curious, but what makes you think its a bad rack-n-pinion? More often then not its just a bad inner and/or outer tie rods, or a bad seal. All of which are easily replaceable, fairly inexpensive and available at rockauto.com. A rack-n-pinion is extremely simple mechanically/internally. So there isn't very much that can go wrong inside it. You'd have to mess up the casing, or the rack/teeth inside the casing to require a replacement rack. Hope that helps...
btw, don't forget to get an alignment after replacing any steering components... Good luck...

I am also curious as to how you got this diagnosed.
At low speed(5mph) or stopped, my steering makes a noise like I have no fluid when turning right...left...not so much. I check fluid and it's at the mark; no leaks underneath either.

Chuck and neo, we may be trying to figure out the same squeaks. Check out my thread to see some other solutions.
