Default NOT your common P0301

2000 Mustang 3.8L Automatic

DEAD miss on cylinder one according too the P0301 code, Cylinder contribution test on the snap on scanner is -22 or so, and pull the plug on injector 1 too have no tone change, hence, cylinder one is DEAD!!! Not occasional miss, its a nice, rythmic, shake of a dropped out cylinder.

Spark is good, checked plug to have it look fine and just like cylinder 4's. Used a spark tester, its good and blue. Flipped number 5 and 1 wires, still miss.

Fuel is good, Noid light lights up great, fuel injection service did nothing, swapped used injector into cylinder 1, still miss's

Compression at 148, 150, while cylinder four is 149, 150

Leak down is less then 7%

Vaccum gauge steady

Pulled plenum and valve covers tonight, springs are fine. Only thing i did notice is that cylinder 1, when not under tension, the rockers are loose, as in, can move them side too side. Cylinder 4 has the same issue with the intake rocker. Is that normal lifter bleed down? If so, why not the other lifters bled out too? The holddown bolt is tight.

Come on now, dont tell me that all this carbon buildup inside this intake (1/4" thick in some spots) is causing this miss...WHAT THE HECK IS IT?!

Well thanks for no response there mustangforums....

It was the lifters. They were quiet, but slightly collapsed. All new ones from rockauto, let the upper and lower intakes soak overnight in the parts washer, and then seafoamed the intake when it was running again. Runs great now...

Hey man!

5 Days isn't that much time for someone to give much of a response but hell I can see you're a good guy because you found the solution and came back with it. Much appreciated!
