Future Mustang owner?
Hi.
This is my first post here so be nice.
I'm also a life-long Mopar owner so be even nicer.
I'm considering buying a '99 Mustang 3.8l/5 speed that's for sale locally. 68k miles, I test drove it and it seems to run fine (could use new tires, though). The check engine light is on always. The seller claims that it's due to an air pump failure. Also, the driver's lock mechanism does not work via door pushbutton nor remote but does work via key and doorhandle.
That's it. They're asking $6800. I'm thinking less.
Any comments for a Mustang newbie would be MUCH appreciated. Hopefully I'll be hanging out here more and more soon.
Peace,
Dave

Go less... around where i live theres a blue '99 3.8 5speed for 5 grand... with decent tires... functional doors... and no check engine lights. The Blue Book value for the year you mentioned, with the same milage in excellent condition is 7 and a half grand. So imho go lower. Did u check out the cars history? This is unlikely... but those problems could be coming from some sort of accident which the owner got tired of fixing up after. Good luck with the mustang Dave, and hope to see you around the forum more often,
Mike

I lived in L.A. for 17 years so I'm WELL aware of the Cali smog check program.
Out here in DE it's a little different but they're still pretty tight on emissions. With a bad air pump I think I'd have a rough go at passing.
But I'm handy with a wrench AND have friends from my high school days who own their own auto repair shops so I'm covered pretty well on parts and repairs.
Thanks for the replies. I'll let you know what happens.
