Default Ignition problem

My 03 just did something very strange. My son asked to use my Stang because we're working on his truck and he went out to start it and the key goes in fine but it feels like the ignition switch is free spinning when you try to start it and it won't start. I've never had a mechanical ignition switch ever break on a car before and I'm wondering if it could have something to do with the Anti theft system. The reason I think it's the Anti theft is because the keyless alarm buttons do not work on either of the hand held units and it acts like it is in the accessory position because the radio is on and the instrument panal is lit up. Has anyone ever had this prob? [&:]

Never had the problem booze, but it could be the computer chip in the key that has to do with the anti-theft. Obviously, our keys can't be duplicated because of it, so maybe it went bad inside the key and the car thinks the key isn't the one that's supposed to go in the ignition.

Do you have a backup key to try it with?

My neighbor had a similar problem with his 03 GT. Turned out to be the Anti-Theft module going bad......for the SECOND time since he owned it. Results? Took it to the dealer....bent over...and you know the rest. He traded it in on a new Nissan p/u a week later.

Well Rach, I have two keys and two hand held alarm units, so that's not it.
And 03Yellow, I wonder if I can disengage my anti theft. I need to read up but I've been busy.

He tried that..didn't work. and the dealer refused to do it, or give him the wiring diagram so he could. I don't know if it can be done.
It cost him $400 to have the damn thing replaced.

OK, UPDATE
It was a broken key tumbler/barrel. They towed my car for free and covered the repair under warranty. Shweeet! I'm guess my son forced it when the steering wheel was turned a little and the wheel lock bound it up. But he won't admit it, LOL.
