is a intercooler really needed? if not , will not running one hurt performance?

i don't know if it's needed for psi under 6-7 (or whatever stock is), but if you want to raise the boost you need an intercooler. and why wouldn't you use one, i felt some pretty big gains by installing one on my 280zx (now totalled <IMG src=smileys/smiley11.gif border="0">).</P><edited><editID>FiveOhNo</editID><editDate>37969.7177662037</editDate></edited>

they are not "needed", but will help in a couple ways. what an intercooler does is cools the air after it exits the extremely hot turbocharger. and as you know, the cooler the air is going in, the more power you'll get because hte air is denser, same thing nitrous does</P>


the other thing that the intercooler does is saves your engine. with the intercooler you have a smaller chance of detonation. it's good insurance.</P>
