Default V6 Engine builds

Im curious, I've got a number of ideas for building the V6 in my car as I have not the capital to buy a V8 but I do have an interest in turning out a quick V6. Its the 3.9L 40th anniversary engine if that matters.

A couple of ideas I've looked at starting with would be -

True Dual exhaust done right
Ported heads
Intake manifold
Cams
Forged pistons

Maybe later on boring or stroking the engine or some form of forced induction. Of course I would strengthen the axels and differential to handle the increased horsepower. Suspension is also on the chart I just have all the time to sit on this...

Thoughts from anyone who has built the engine or up or ideas?

Literally put a price tag next to each of those items. (especially if you're doing FI). If you sum it up and add the value of your car, you definitely WILL have the capital to buy a v8.

Don't do these little tidbits at a time, spending money as you earn it, and then regret it later.

Take a Look at Supersixmotorsports.com. They'll have what you need for any of the engine mods you were talking about.

Exhaust won't help too much but it'll give you a smile on your face

As for the the supporting mods.... What I'm doing is going through all the stuff that needs to get done to be able to handle that power (Differential, exhaust, axle, clutch) maybe adding some small power adders here and there, Then I'm going to break into the engine. Stroking it, H/C/I, and on top of it all I'm going to turbo it. Granted this take ALOT longer, but its working for me since I'm in college and it takes a while for me to save up to buy a part. Plus by the time I'll be in a position to rebuild my motor, It'll will need it as I am driving back and forth from class, not living on campus.

Anyways, just giving my thoughts. I'm right there with ya though, I want to see my sixxer beat GT's bad.

+1, not to mention the value of your car remains that of a V6, resale value is sometimes hurt cause it's a havily moded car, shops will be less willing to work on it, and it will not get the same user friendly driving a V8.

Again, It all comes down to preference, whether you want to spend the money or not, But yes, If you want a cheaper way, go with buying a GT and doing a lil bit to it.

Skip the bolt on junk and go straight to forced induction on the otherwise stock motor with exhuast. It's a much better (cheaper) route to get the 'fun' you are looking for.

I'd do it this way:
Big brakes
Suspension (at least shocks/struts/springs/GT rear sway bar)
Blower

Pretty much what Roush stated above, Put a supercharger of your choice on it, some brakes to slow her down, suspension to put that power to the ground. A good clutch kit and short throw shifter will save your tranny BIG TIME. Fords are notorious for ****ty shifters, SO easy to miss gears, especially third(buddys SHO was a bitch), not worth a tranny blown for 100-150 dollar mod or even the motor for that matter.

Just paid a visit to my local junkyard down here in Texas and they have a '95 Mustang 5.0 for $150 bux. Most likely needs a rebuild but still, 150 bux cant go wrong.

I'm assuming just the motor, if it is the whole car, it's stripped of most of the usable parts.
