Post Anyone Have A Shift Light?

So I'm sitting here in a stick shift jamming out to the
music blaring and notice that I'm at 4 - 5 RPM. These
cars sound good and perform well under even those
RPM's and you (if you're in my shoes) don't care what
RPM's you're running, but that's not good for gas or your
engine if you're just sitting there going the same speed.
Got me wondering if I should do an easy mod and just
install a shift light? The "performance" ones that come
separate and stick to your dash aren't the ones I'm after.
I'd mod a cheaper one and just cut or find a place to slide
it into my cluster. Tell the light to come on at 3 - 3 1/2
RPM and call it good. I think it would look good, just
wondering if anyone on here has one or has ever had one?

Have any thoughts on this?

Go for it! But I don't believe you will be able to mount it in the stock cluster. As the circuit sheet takes up the whole back side of the gauge cluster, you would have to cut through it. Which would kill the gauges.

shift lights like the cheaper ones only have one massive hi intensity led and just has the 2 leads coming off, if you wanted you could mod the cluster and run some wire so that the light comes on in it.

You could also look down at your gauges every so often, make sure you dont have a CEL or other problem.

Why would I have a check engine light? It's just every now
and then that I tend to go over and when I do it's not like
the car rattles or the engine makes any suspicious noise, it
all still feels fine and sounds fine, it's just running at higher
RPM.

A write up of how to do a DYI light though... now that's an
idea. Though I'm not advanced in that area, it would be fun
to get some experience and do a little project. Having the
light come on at a certain RPM is what would get me though.
The shift lights just have a little **** that you just turn it to
what RPM you want and presto, if you have all the wires
hooked up correctly the light will come on at specified RPM.
Doing that part in a DIY project sounds like I could mess up
time and time again. But I do like the idea, I'll see if I can't
find something.

He's being sarcastic and telling you a shift light is a waste of money, and that you should be looking at your gauges more often.
