so Dan, your saying that if im cruising in 4th and i need to stop for a light that its a bad idea to throw it in neutral and brake? how else should I stop then?
No, not really saying "bad" but could be better if you downshifter to save your brakes some. Because obviously when you downshift it slows you down and the slower your going the less brakes it takes to stop.

downshifting to brake or slow down the car is completely foolish. All you are doing is grinding in your gears more and more...what do you think BRAKES WERE MADE FOR? The are made to stop you...if you find that downshifting to slow down works for you....more power to you..enjoy buy clutch after clutch later

Then why do so many people do it? Why would someone make it up if it is foolish and nothing but bad news for clutch and gears?

well what you should do dan is hold the clutch in while braking and then shift into 3rd gear or whatever when its time to go then let off the brakes...you get the idea. as far as something being wrong with your tranny. have someone drive it that knows cars and see what he says

That first little part there I know exactly what you mean and I do that but Im talking about downshifting to acutally come to a stop at a light or stop sign. I dont mean down shift so that it STOPS me completely but slows me down enough where I dont use so much brakes ya know?

Well why do so many people do donuts? why do they peel out? Why do they race? is it "safe" for the car? I don't think so......does that answer your question? They don't do it bc its BETTER or SAFER they just do it b/c they want to do it.
