Default HELP!!!! 2000 Mustang seat belt replacement

Okay, pals. Firstly, it's my fault i didn't change my seat belt last year or earlier this year.

I have 2000 mustang. The seat belt on driver's side doesn't retract well. There is a lot of slack right now. I talked to a tech person in another state last year, and he told me it would still lock and should be okay. As I was moving, I forgot to pay attention on this.

Right now, I want to replace the seatbelt. And D**n ford discontinued the seat belt. We know 1999 - 2004 are the same model. But they used different seat belt for 1999/2000 and 2001/2004. and they only discontinued 1999/2000.

I have tried all over the website, but i couldn't find any new ones. I have contacted some stores for used ones, but they weren't even sure if they would lock during accident as the used ones are from wrecks.

I have some questions though and hope I could get some help from you guys.

1. Where possible can I get new seat belt? The belt part # is 611B09.

2. Can I still use 2001 seat belt for my 2000 mustang? Will the electronic lock the belt during accident or high speed?

3. Is it risky to put on a used seat belt?

Thank you very much. I really appreciate for any information.

I wouldn’t use a used seat belt locking/retracting mechanism. The locking mechanism could easily have gotten damaged in the wreck making it useless. Better to be safe then sorry. If its just the belt you want to replace, then as long as the belt isn’t damaged it should be fine.

Is it just the belt you want to replace or the locking/retracting mechanism? If its just the locking/retracting mechanism, I’d first try removing it, cleaning it and greasing it up. Chances are there are a bunch of dust-bunnies and/or other gunk in there hindering its operation. Should take you an hour tops (and that includes a few beers along the way). Good luck...

It's the retractor. It seems a common issue. The same car has already replaced the seatbelt(always with a retractor) in 2006. I was told because of the design, the retractor got worn out easily.

Yes. I am not sure about used one either. I am trying all my best to find a new one. But hey, I would say, Ford sucks. I probably won't go with Ford anymore. I am with Ford all the time, but it disappointed me all the time. Last time, my old Taurus junked on a highway.

It may be worn out, however, it is still worth it (in my opinion) to try and clean/fix it compared to replacing it.

btw, the belt is held in by a rod inside of a loop at the end of the belt which goes into a slot in the retractor which holds the belt in place. If you slide this rod out of the loop you can remove the belt from the retractor, if you choose.

Good luck...
