2002 Mustang ABS light always on
I have a 2002 Mustang V6 Convertible and my ABS light is always on. Where do I start to fix this? Because my ABS is disabled, my traction control is also always off. The light is on as soon as the key is turned so I don't think it's my wheel sensors. Where are the sensors located and what else should I check? Thanks in advance!

When you turn the key on the abs system does it's own quick diagnostic, if it gets a funny reading back from any of the sensors it disables the system. Turn your steering to full lock in either direction. Then lift the car and pull off a front wheel.
The sensor is the only thing with a wire running to it on the backside of the hub.
The system could be getting a bad signal due to a sensor coming inplugged, a short in a connection, but the most likely culprit is trash build up on the tip of the sensor or the disc that it gets signal from. Just inside the dust shield on the wheel side there is a disc that looks like a gear, clean that real good along with your sensors with a tooth brush or something and clean the connectors out with some electric contact cleaner.
Then unplug the battery for a few minutes to reset the system.
If that doesn't fix the problem a shop can scan your car and tell you which sensor is bad. Most scan tools available to the public can not scan abs codes, and if the can they are expensive.
