Just took smog pump off, capped off pipe. Check engine light flashes and car looses power. When light not flashing car runs somewhat ok. Thanks for your time.

 

put the smog pump back on or buy a tuner to turn off smog pump parameters.

 

Smog pump is only taking up like 1/1,000,000^2 horsepower. You have gained nothing but a check engine light and a poor running motor from just removing it. Pop that bad boy back on. A better gain can be seen from trimming the intake "snorkel" right where it goes into the fender or removing it all together as this is restrictive to the airflow.

As stated, put the pump back on unless you have the tuner to fix the smog parameters, but even then the gains are near non existent, better and safer to leave it on.
