Exaust question
Well even though it may of been indirectly answered in the stickies I will directly answer your question. OK a V6 cat bact unit mounts right up to the y pipe, they make your car look like an 8, but they don't really give you that much hp, I'm guessing bout 3-5 hp at best, and they do sound a little ricey. Now GT cutoffs are GT pypes that have been cut off behind the h pipe so that a GT could get a different exhaust system. For GT cutoffs to work on a six you have to get the adapter h pipe looking thing that mustangtuning and autobadges sells for the unit to mout up. The adapter welds on to your cats, and the GT cutoffs weld on to the adapter. These sound beautiful in the lower revs, but do get a little weird sounding in the upper revs. The actuall hp gains on cutoffs is debaitable because some people say that 2 1/4" pypes are the best on a six for hp gains, but others say that the GT mufflers are really restrictive which hamperes any real hp gains, my advice on the cutoffs is to just install different mufflers like magnaflow or flowmasters. Now a true flow dual exhaust system replaces the whole exhaust from the headers back. A true flwow dual exhaust system requires an h or an x pipe, which mounts up to the headers and a GT 2 1/2" cat back system. The h pipe is shaped like a stock GT exhaust and looks like an H, hence the name, and mounts up to your stock headers, they come with or without cats, on a six, having or not having high flow cats really doesn't make a great difference in hp, maybe 1-3 hp without cats, but removing the stock cats does help. H pipes tend to be louder than x pipes, but don't offer as much hp, but yet again, the difference is minimal. X pipes are two pipes that cross in the middle to form an x, which allows the overflow from one side of the exhaust, to enter the other pipe if need be to furthur increase airflow out of the pipes, see in an h pipe the overflow has to travel horizontal to the other side if overflow occurs, it works, but not as effeciently as an x pipe. Now you need to get a V6 x or h pipe, V8 units "WILL NOT WORK" on a six. Then you get a GT cat back unit which bolts onto the x or h pipe and walah, true flow dual exhaust. This setup will give you between 5-10 hp, but 8 seems to be the norm. Hope this helps. Man after all that I need a beer.[sm=alcoholic.gif]
cheap route= cut off ur stock exhaust urself....take ur y and cut it a little past the cats and buy some mufflers online or at a muff shop and have them run some straight pipes from ur cut pipe to the mufflers and then to the tail pipes...true dual ghetto exhaust
i would find someones GT takeoffs
it is far cheaper and sounds just as good
my install was 100 bucks

BG, everytime I click your link, it kicks me off the internet.
But that is a great price you paid. The only problem for me is GT take offs aren't loud enough for me.

I curious, why did everyone freak out about having a "one and only" exhaust thread sticky if no one uses it? [&:] Not that I care, just curious.

Looks good to me, but they do recommend 2 1/4" pipe on a stock V6. Probably cost you a couple hundred to get it installed. You might want bigger tips also...like 3"
